History of Parent-Child Mother Goose in Australia
As we've described in Origins in Canada, the Parent-Child Mother Goose Program® originally began in Toronto, Canada in the mid 1980s and grew from there. Today it is delivered in hundreds of communities across Canada.
In 2003 members of the Early Childhood Intervention community and storytellers obtained a grant to fund Parent-Child Mother Goose trainers to come to Australia. About 200 facilitators were trained, mostly in Victoria. Canadian trainers then came biannually from 2005, and in that year the first Australian trainer was accredited. In 2009, two more Australian trainers were accredited and a Regional Office was established in Melbourne. Knox City Council auspiced the program until the end of 2015 when the Regional Office of Parent-Child Mother Goose Australia moved to Brunswick where it was co-located with Playgroups Victoria. There is now a small group of accredited Australian trainers who are responsible for training new facilitators. We are pleased to acknowledge our debt of gratitude to the National Council of Parent-Child Mother Goose in Canada for supplying us with a great model on which we have based the original design of our own website. |
